The disbursement of the second tranche of €600 million in macro-financial assistance is a clear sign of EU support for Ukraine's reform agenda.

“We are supporting Ukraine with an EU Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) programme of €1.2 billion. Its second tranche of €600 million disbursed today is a clear sign of EU support for Ukraine's reform agenda,” commented Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, reads the press release published on the EC’s website.

Dombrovskis noted that Ukraine had made significant efforts towards implementing the MFA conditions and also made satisfactory progress with the International Monetary Fund.

“By providing financial and technical support, the EU is helping to improve living standards for the Ukrainian people; by providing strong political support, we are strengthening Ukraine's integration with the European Union,” the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission added.

As reported, the decision to provide Ukraine with the second tranche of macro-financial assistance of €600 million, disbursed today, October 25, the European Commission adopted on September 13, 2021. This decision was based on the positive assessment of Ukraine’s implementation of the conditions set out in the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding, as well as Ukraine's progress in the context of IMF programs.

With today's disbursement, the EU completed € 1.2 billion macro-financial assistance package to Ukraine. Ukraine received the first tranche totaling € 600 million in December 2020.

The MFA to Ukraine was part of a total € 3 billion macro-financial assistance package for ten EU candidate and partner countries to overcome the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
