Ukraine has received over EUR 17 B in loans and grants from EU since 2014

The European Union has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine with a clear link to the effective implementation of reforms and policies.

"The EU reaffirmed its continued substantial support for Ukraine with a clear link to the effective implementation of reforms and policy measures," reads the joint statement following the 23rd Ukraine–EU Summit.

The EU recalled that since 2014 the EU and European Financial Institutions have mobilised unprecedented package of more than EUR 17 billion in loans and grants.

As noted, the EU intends to propose the 2021 bilateral financial assistance under the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) to support key reforms and the implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, including its Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.

The Summit participants welcomed the presentation by the EU of an Economic and Investment Plan for the Eastern Partnership and its flagship initiatives for Ukraine, which will mobilise up to EUR 6.47 billion in public and private investments to boost economic development and support post-pandemic recovery and agreed on its swift implementation.

Moreover, the EU reiterated the ongoing humanitarian support to the conflict-affected population in eastern Ukraine with an amount of EUR 25.4 million for 2021. The Summit participants acknowledged the important roles played by the European Commission Support Group for Ukraine (SGUA) and the EU Advisory Mission for civilian security sector reform (EUAM).

As reported, the 23rd Ukraine–EU Summit took place in Kyiv on October 12, 2021.
