The synchronization of Ukraine’s integrated energy system with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) will enable the European energy system to become more flexible and raise its sustainability, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.

"Disconnection from the Russian power system and synchronization with the European one will benefit not only Ukraine. This will diversify energy supply routes, raise EU energy sector’s flexibility and sustainability, and create favorable conditions for the further development of renewable energy,” the ministry's press service quoted State Secretary Volodymyr Bondarenko as saying.

It is noted that the decarbonization of the Ukrainian energy sector is a key factor in the success of the decarbonization of Eastern Europe and the implementation of Ukraine’s commitments to reduce emissions.

According to the ministry, the share of renewable energy sources in Ukraine is expected to reach 25% in 2030.

In addition, Ukraine is planning to develop shunting generation, build frequency management and maintenance systems, develop "smart grids" and reduce network losses.

As Ukrinform reported, the synchronization of Ukraine’s integrated power system with the ENTSO-E power grid is scheduled for 2023.

ENTSO-E, the European Network of Transmission System Operators, unites 43 operators in 36 countries of the European continent.
