Boryspil International Airport, located just outside Kyiv, ranked fifth in 2021 among the 10 best airports across the region of Eastern Europe.

That’s according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ukrinform reports.

“Since 1999, the rating has been formed annually by the UK-based Skytrax consultancy. Winners are determined through a global survey of airport customers. Travelers from more than 100 countries took part in the 2020-2021 survey,” the statement reads.

According to the poll, the region’s best airport is that in Budapest. The runner-up is the airport in Bucharest, while the Tallinn airport completes the TOP 3.

Boryspil International (KBP) overtook the airports in Tbilisi, Belgrade, Bratislava, Zagreb, and Sofia.

The World Airport Awards set quality standards for the global industry, assessing the level of customer service at more than 500 airports around the globe. The survey and award process is fully funded by Skytrax.

A pilot project of the Ministry of Infrastructure is being implemented at Boryspil International Airport within the framework of the National Barrier-Free Strategy. Together with First Lady Olena Zelenska, UNICEF, and a number of non-profits, an audit was conducted and an action plan was developed to improve accessibility. Over the past two months, the airport has started to implement the scheduled measures and their first positive results are showing, the report reads.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, most flights in 2020 were made at Boryspil, Kyiv, and Lviv airports. In particular, 47,524 flights in Boryspil, 12,805 flights in Igor Sikorsky International Airport (Zhuliany), and  9,850 flights in Danylo Halytsky Lviv International Airport.
