Ukraine–China partnership is based on mutual recognition of independence and sovereignty, security, and economic growth of each country and is not directed against any third party.

"Ukraine–China partnership is based on mutual recognition of independence and sovereignty, security and economic growth of each party. And, what is extremely important and in the interests of the two peoples, it is not directed against any third party," Professor Oleksandr Lytvynenko, Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, Doctor of Political Science, said at the round table discussion on "Ten years of Ukraine–China strategic partnership: results and prospects" on June 29, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The expert noted that the existing legal framework of bilateral relations between Ukraine and China ensured their positive development and created a rather big potential for the future.

"At the same time, we must be very clear that the opportunities created by the international situation, the objective and national interests of the parties have certain rather serious limitations. Awareness of these limitations and understanding of their nature and significance should be a very important basis for our bilateral cooperation in order to avoid annoying situations possible in the past and to assess the possibility (occurrence) of other negative situations in the future," said the Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.

He noted that further deepening of the strategic partnership between the two countries provided for strengthening Ukraine–China dialogue and cooperation within the UN and other multilateral dimensions, cooperation on regional issues, active trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

Finally, Lytvynenko noted that China had been Ukraine's largest trading partner in recent years, and the growth potential remains rather big.

The Joint Declaration on Establishment and Development of Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and China was signed during the state visit of the then President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao to Ukraine on June 20, 2011.
