Ukraine presents over 20 companies at BIOFACH organic food fair

"At year-end 2019, Ukraine ranked first in Europe and second in the world (out of 123 countries) in terms of exports of organic products to the EU. The Ministry of Economic Development is working to ensure the expansion of areas for organic farming in Ukraine and the development of the market of organic products in Ukraine," Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Serhiy Hlushchenko said in the opening remarks at the fair.

He added that Ukrainian organic grains, legumes, oilseeds, berries, butter, cereals and dairy products are exported not only to EU countries but also to the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the UAE, Japan and other countries. In 2019, total exports of domestic organic products amounted to $189 million (469,000 tonnes), of which 85% of products were exported to Europe, 12% - North America, about 3% - Asia, about 1% - Africa.

Moreover, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Economic Development, the state support for producers of organic products in the amount of UAH 100 million with the prospect for increasing it in the coming years will be introduced this year.

As noted, the Ukrainian national pavilion participants are producers and exporters of finished organic products, organic agricultural raw materials for further processing, organic fertilizers. Ukraine takes part in the BIOFACH organic food fair for the eighth time.
