Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii expects that the Common Aviation Area Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will be signed in the near future.

Kryklii made a corresponding statement at a working meeting with Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

"The Minister of Infrastructure also expressed hope that the Common Aviation Area Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union will be signed in the near future. Ukraine counts on EU’s support in this matter," reads the statement.

In addition, the parties discussed the liberalization of international road transportation between Ukraine and the EU. Kryklii thanked the European side for its readiness for this dialogue and suggested setting up a separate working group with EU representatives to work on this issue.

The minister also shared the plans and initiatives in the implementation of the European Green Deal.

The parties also discussed the progress of implementation of EU legislation in the field of transport, as well as further cooperation in various infrastructure areas.

Kryklii thanked the European side for its support and informed about the Ministry’s progress in fulfilling Ukraine’s European integration commitments. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the fulfillment of Ukraine’s obligations under the Association Agreement in the field of transport increased from 19% in 2019 to 34% in 2020.

The development of Ukraine's inland waterway transport was also discussed during the meeting. The Ministry has already begun to draft relevant regulations to ensure the implementation of the law on inland waterway transport adopted in December last year, Kryklii noted.

According to him, the inclusion of Ukraine's inland waterways in the TEN-T regional network, which opens up opportunities to encourage investment in the development of river infrastructure, remains relevant for the Ukrainian side. Therefore, Ukraine expects active cooperation in this area.

As reported, following the results of the 22nd EU-Ukraine Summit in October last year, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Common Aviation Area Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union could be signed in 2021.
