PM Shmyhal: Several countries inquire about Ukrainian food supplies during coronavirus crisis
“When the pandemic started, we launched negotiations to join vaccine and medicines initiatives. And we were asked: ‘Okay, we'll put you in line, but put us in line for food’ as everyone was worried about a possible food crisis in the spring. It does not necessarily mean that the world does not face such risks already. Many ambassadors of foreign states requested us to reserve certain shares of agricultural products, food, grain, and other products supplies for their countries," Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said during a working visit to Lviv region, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The Head of Government believes that Ukraine can supply products, but it is worth thinking about supplying not raw materials but creating production and added value as Ukraine will be able to make profits and create more new jobs.
As reported, Ukraine is among ten major exporters of agricultural products to the European Union. However, the exports have decreased by almost 15% over the past year.
