Saakashvili on importance of cooperation with IMF: It’s artificial respiration for economy

Former president of Georgia and candidate for the post of Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister Mikheil Saakashvili likened cooperation with the International Monetary Fund to an artificial respirator for the Ukrainian economy.

"At the moment, the IMF is artificial respiration. It is a forced step. If we were healthy, we would not need the IMF. We need to move away from this respirator, but now we need to survive and recover breath," Saakashvili said on the air of the TV program "Freedom of speech of Savik Shuster" on Friday evening, Ukrinform reported.

It became known recently that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had met with Saakashvili and invited him to share his vision of Ukraine's development with the Government and the Parliament.

Saakashvili said he was offered the post of Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister for Reforms. On Friday, April 24, he met with MPs from the Servant of the People Party faction.

Oleksandr Korniyenko, the first deputy head of the faction, said that the vote on Saakashvili's appointment could take place in the Parliament on April 28-29.
