The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) expects that Ukraine will receive a tranche of USD 2 billion from the International Monetary Fund in the second quarter of 2020.
NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii said this at a briefing on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"Ukraine has come close to the approval by the IMF Board of Directors of a new cooperation program. Our updated forecast assumes the receipt of the first tranche of a loan worth about USD 2 billion in the second quarter," Smolii said.
According to him, this will enable to cover the state budget deficit, which was increased to 7.5% of GDP, and help confidently pass the period of peak debt burden. Financing from the IMF and other official international partners will also help Ukraine maintain international reserves at the level of USD 27-29 billion over the current and next years.
