Public debt management agency set up in Ukraine

Ukrinform
Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has decided to set up a public debt management agency, Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk has reported on his Telegram channel.

"The government has set up a debt agency to ensure that our country has no problems with the repayment of previously taken loans. In 2019 alone, the successful implementation by the Finance Ministry of a medium-term strategy for public debt management allowed us to save about UAH 19 billion in public debt service expenses," Honcharuk wrote.

According to him, the authorities expect better results after the launch of the agency, which will use the tools for managing public debt as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Honcharuk said that the creation of the debt agency is a prerequisite for the implementation of the government's action plan to reduce taxpayers' debt service costs. Such a model works successfully in Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden, he added.
