Ukraine will cooperate with foreign manufacturers of electric locomotives only under conditions of financial cooperation and a high level of localization of locomotive production in Ukraine.

Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii stated this at a meeting with representatives of the French engineering company Alstom, the ministry’s press service reported.

“Localization of electric locomotive production in Ukraine, bringing its level to at least 40%, introduction of modern technological comprehensive solutions for electric locomotive production, service and repairs, financial cooperation (financial instrument proposal) for implementing the project in Ukraine, involvement of domestic industrial enterprises, including affiliates of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, such conditions of cooperation with electric locomotive companies are acceptable for Ukraine,” Kryklii said.

According to him, Ukraine is interested in cooperation with Alstom, because the need of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia is 110 units of electric freight locomotives in 2020-2025.

The minister added that Ukraine is now open to initiatives for the development and modernization of railway transport infrastructure.

As Ukrinform reported, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia signed the memoranda of cooperation with the world’s leading rolling stock manufacturers, Alstom and CRRC, in September 2018. The Ukrainian railway company inters to purchase at least 200 locomotives in the coming years and up to 500 new electric locomotives before 2029.
