Ukraine calls on European Parliament to stop Nord Stream 2

"In letters to Ukraine's friends at the European Parliament, I urged MEPs to protect the rule of law, the energy security of Europe and stop Nord Stream 2. The intention to exclude Nord Stream 2 from the 3rd energy package breaches EU legislation, solidarity and encourages Russia to defy rules, blackmail and violate commitments," the Ukrainian diplomat wrote on Twitter.

Germany's Bundestag early on November 8 failed to vote for a government-proposed bill on the application of internal gas market rules to pipelines between EU member states and non-EU countries due to the absence of a quorum.

The essence of the proposals that were discussed in Berlin, including the attempt by the German government to circumvent the annexes to the EU Gas Directive, has been widely commented on in social media.

In particular, it was pointed out that such proposals exclude from the effect of these annexes the gas pipelines "that received investments made before May 23, 2019" instead of the original provision approved by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council, which extends the rules of the EU Gas Directive "to all pipelines completed by May 23, 2019."
