Ukraine could receive second tranche of EU macro-financial assistance this year
"I and Valdis Dombrovskis agreed on the action plan for the second tranche of macro-financial assistance. We have already fulfilled all but one condition and still could receive funds this year. The financing for 2020 was also discussed," Markarova posted on Facebook following the three-day visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the United States.
Long-term and cheap financing from official creditors is a priority of the Ministry of Finance, as well as the development of the internal market, the minister stressed.
Markarova informed that the Ukrainian delegation had discussed with Chairperson of the Paris Club Odile Renaud Basso the deepening of the cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the Treasury of France, as well as strengthening of investment projects with Ukrainian instruments.
Moreover, the representatives of Ukraine and EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti praised a record EUR 1 billion in projects over ten months of 2019 and coordinated steps on the EBRD's investment in the Oshchadbank (State Savings Bank of Ukraine).
“In addition, the talks with the IMF were continued during the visit to the United States. "Our delegation met with Director of the IMF’s European Department Poul Thomsen and new IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, who has been a good partner of Ukraine since her work at the World Bank,” Markarova noted.
According to her, the Finance Ministry of Ukraine also agreed to continue cooperation with the Ministry of Finance of the Netherlands, signing a relevant memorandum with Minister Wopke Hoekstra.
On October 16, the Ukrainian delegation flied to Washington, D.C., to hold talks with the IMF and other international financial institutions.
The European Union previously stated that it was ready to provide Ukraine with a second EUR 500 million tranche under the fourth macro-financial assistance program as soon as the corresponding conditions were met.
