The Cabinet of Ministers has returned JSC Ukrzaliznytsia to the subordination of the Infrastructure Ministry.

Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“The government decided to return Ukrzaliznytsia to the sphere of management of the Infrastructure Ministry,” Kryklii wrote.

According to him, this will complete the company’s reform launched three years ago. The minister reminded that the company within the reform will be divided into infrastructure operator, freight carrier, passenger carrier and become public. Also, the railway infrastructure of Ukraine will be modernized and the fleet of passenger cars and locomotives will be updated. Also, to improve the quality of passenger services, the railway stations of Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ivano-Frankivsk will be put into concession.

The minister has also noted that the Infrastructure Ministry is planning to create a competitive market for railway transportation and is preparing a reform of the tariff system for rail transportation services.

As Ukrinform reported, the Cabinet of Ministers transferred JSC Ukrzaliznytsia from the subordination of the Infrastructure Ministry to the Economic Development and Trade Ministry (at present the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture) on January 18, 2017.
