Ukraine ranks first in EU agri-food import growth in May
The European Commission published the relevant data in the report “Monitoring EU Agri-Food Trade: Development until May 2019.“
"The USA and Ukraine accounted for most of EU agri-food import growth. For the 12-month period from June 2018 to May 2019, agri-food imports from third countries accounted for EUR 118.8 billion, i.e. an increase of 3.2% compared to June 2017 – May 2018. The most important origins for EU agri-food imports over the past 12 months (EUR billion) were the USA (13.0), Brazil (11.7), followed by Ukraine (6.5) and China (6.0)," the report says.
On a year-on-year basis, the value of agri-food imports (in EUR billion, % change) continued to grow impressively from the USA (+2.4, +23%) and Ukraine (+1.1, +20%). The value of May 2019 EU agri-food imports compared to May 2018 increased most from Ukraine (+173), China (+103), USA (+67) and Argentina (+59).
