Reva assures IMF that government’s resignation won´t threaten Ukraine´s economy
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the social policy ministry and the finance ministry, according to the Government portal.
The main issues discussed during the meeting were: the utility subsidy program and the results of the 2018-2019 heating season; preliminary results of the pension reform and medium-term budget outlook.
Also, the political situation in Ukraine has been put on the agenda of the IMF. In particular, this concerns the early resignation of the government, which may be considered by Ukraine’s financial donors as a factor of economic and social destabilization.
At the same time, Reva stated: “There is no threat to economic stability in Ukraine. Despite the election campaign, the government intends to ensure stability for the transition period... Our policy will continue to be predictable throughout this entire transition period. Moreover, I’ll say that there are currently various radical statements and I would ask to consider them as final phenomena of the election race."
Reva thanked the IMF mission for the work carried out to support reforms in Ukraine, as well as for understanding of Ukraine’s specifics. According to the minister, the International Monetary Fund´s European Department has managed to encourage many people to change.
The head of the mission, in turn, said that the IMF sincerely wishes Ukraine to develop as a civilized European state and will fully support these aspirations of the Ukrainian people. Ron Van Rooden also noted that Ukraine had managed to carry out efficient reforms in recent years, in particular, pension and subsidy programs.
