Ukraine-EU agricultural products turnover reaches $2.6 billion in Q1 2019
The press service of the National Scientific Center Institute of Agrarian Economics (IAE) reported this with reference to IAE Deputy Director Mykola Puhachov.
"In January-March 2019, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Ukraine and the European Union grew by 20%, to $2.6 billion. The positive balance for our state exceeded $1.1 billion,” Puhachov said.
According to him, in the first quarter of the current year, there was an increase in imports to $735 million (+ 10%), while exports grew up to $1,882 million (+ 24%).
The expert also reminded that the top six trade partners of Ukraine in the EU remain the same: the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany and France. Their total share in the agricultural products turnover made up about 70%.
The key export items supplied to the European Union’s markets were grain (mostly corn), oilseeds (soybeans and rapeseeds) and sunflower oil and the remnants of the processing industry.
In turn, Ukraine imported from the European Union countries mostly corn and sunflower seeds, various food products, chocolate, tobacco and alcoholic beverages.
In January-March 2019, domestic exporters fully used duty-free quotas for supplies of honey, apple and grape juice, corn (main and additional quotas) and sugar, as well as quarterly quotas for poultry meat.
