Ukraine developing mechanisms for introducing green bonds
Chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency Serhiy Savchuk wrote this on Facebook.
"Together with representatives of GIZ, UNDP Ukraine, IFC - International Finance Corporation, banks, investment companies, we held a joint meeting and discussed legislative amendments for the introduction of ‘green’ bonds in Ukraine,” Savchuk wrote.
According to him, the introduction of the green bond market in Ukraine can be an effective tool for cheaper financial resources for green projects and a multiplier for attracting investments, since green bonds can be issued by many entities (government, municipalities, banks, international financial organizations, special foundations etc).
"The State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, jointly with the GIZ project on consulting enterprises on energy efficiency and the National Securities and Stock Market Commission of Ukraine, has already developed legal standards that create the legal framework for issuing green bonds in Ukraine," Savchuk said.
As reported, according to the international organization Climate Bonds Initiative, the total volume of global green bond issuance reached $389 billion in 2018. This is 2.4 times more than in 2017 and almost 1,000 times more than 10 years ago.
