About € 1.5 billion has been invested in the renewable energy projects in Ukraine due to the legislative incentives introduced over the past four years.

Chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhiy Savchuk made the relevant statement while discussing the achievements in field of energy efficiency and renewable energy and the action plan for 2019, the Government portal reports.

According to Savchuk, the agency continues to develop the initiatives relevant for consumers and the state.

In particular, in 2019, the population and the apartment building co-owners associations will receive co-funding for thermal insulation of houses from both the state and local budgets.

“In addition, we have been already forming the foundation for the market of the energy certification of buildings. We and 32 higher education establishments launch training programs and certification commissions for the energy auditors,” Savchuk said.

As noted, the legislation on the energy services is continued to be improved to encourage investment in the thermal insulation of the buildings of budgetary institutions, apartment building co-owners associations and government bodies.

Another promising focus area is the waste-to-energy generation. The country's population produces a total of 10 million tonnes of waste annually. Processing of such amount of waste can help replace the equivalent of up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas.

“The agency and the partners have already prepared the concept of stimulating the waste-to-energy generation, which will be taken as a basis for legislative changes,” the chairman of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine noted.
