Signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) between Ukraine and Israel by the end of the year is a priority issue for both countries.

The press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported this following a meeting between Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and Minister of Environmental Protection, Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage Minister of Israel Ze'ev Elkin.

"During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the vital issues of bilateral cooperation. In the context of trade and economic cooperation, the parties focused on the priority of signing the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Israel by the end of the current year," the report reads.

The Foreign Ministry informed that in order to resolve the issue of non-admission of a significant number of Ukrainian citizens to Israel at the Ben Gurion Airport, the parties decided to hold consular consultations in Jerusalem in the near future.

The ministers also discussed the prospects for ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the agreement on social security between Ukraine and the State of Israel, signed in New York on September 28, 2012.
