Poroshenko: Ukraine is reliable cargo transit partner

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this, speaking at the official tunnel opening ceremony, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"It is very important that Ukraine becomes a reliable transit country not only for gas and energy, but for cargoes as well. This has become possible today. This tunnel is part of the Trieste-Ljubljana-Budapest-Bratislava-Uzhgorod-Lviv international transport corridor which is 1,500 km in length. It’s extremely important and symbolic that Lviv and Trieste are linked now," Poroshenko said.

This tunnel is a symbol of cooperation between the Ukrainian Railways Ukrzaliznytsya, the Ukrainian authorities, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, the President noted. “We united our efforts and demonstrated we could implement large-scale projects of such a level amid the war of aggression. Almost UAH 3 billion was invested in order to make it possible," Poroshenko said.
