Ukraine's role as a transit country should remain after the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said this after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, RFE/RL reported.
"Germany believes Ukraine's role as a transit country should continue after the construction of Nord Stream 2... it has a strategic importance," Merkel said.
She added that "Germany is ready to help ensure such an outcome... It is also necessary to think about guarantees for Ukraine."
