Congress of Local Authorities of the Council of Europe to monitor local government reforms in Ukraine in 2018

He stated this at a meeting with a delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Today we received recommendations that we will use during the next year before the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Ukraine conducts the monitoring mission," Zubko said.

He added that during the meeting the parties discussed the issue not only of the formation of communities, the strengthening of the services of communities, but, most importantly, the possibility of new powers of local self-government and the restoration of a practical system of self-government "that is absolutely identical to the system which operates in the European Union".

In turn, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (Austria) Gudrun Mosler-Törnström has explained that monitoring of the local government issues takes place every three-five years in each of 47 member countries of the organization.
