The parliamentary committee on legal policy and justice has supported a draft law on special confiscation, under which money and other assets earned illegally are transferred to the national budget.

Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko stated this following a committee’s sitting, the ministry’s press service reports.

“Following long discussions, the committee recommended that Parliament support this bill as a basis. This is a step towards returning the funds that were stolen from the Ukrainian people by [ex Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych and his associates,” the justice minister said.

Petrenko also stressed that together with the draft law on special confiscation, Parliament should approve another document envisaging where the confiscated funds will be directed.
