Diplomat: Ukraine claims 16.37% in USSR assets
KYIV, March 19 /Ukrinform/. Ukraine claims 16.37% in all assets of the former Soviet Union. This includes gold reserves of the USSR, property abroad, and other assets, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis told reporters on Tuesday.
"We have the right to claim 16.37% in total assets of the Soviet Union. This includes property abroad, gold reserves, diamond fund, assets on debts of other states to the USSR. According to our data, it is quite significant assets, billions," he said.
According to him, despite repeated requests and demands the Russian side for over 20 years has failed to provide Ukraine with a clear list of all assets that were in the Soviet Union at the time of its collapse. "We still do not know what were the gold reserves of the Soviet Union for a period of collapse, what were the diamond fund assets, etc. Russia has always concealed these facts and so far none of the former Soviet republics received these data," the diplomat added.
As reported, on Sunday, Ukrainian Prime Arseniy Yatseniuk said Ukraine would seek its interests in distributing the property of the former Soviet Union in the framework of the so-called "zero option".
