Azarov says problems with Customs Union linked to differences in approaches
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said this during his working visit to Luhansk region on Thursday, Ukrinform reported.
"We are now facing some difficulties related to the creation and structuring of the Customs Union, and there are differences in approaches. Therefore, it's very important now to intensify and extend our cooperation with the countries of the Customs Union, especially in terms of rapprochement in the field of technical regulations, and agreements governing customs procedures. And now we are actively working on this," Azarov said.
However, he said that it is impossible to oppose Ukraine's cooperation with EU countries and the countries of the Customs Union, because the country will develop cooperation with both unions.
The prime minister said that Viktor Suslov would soon begin to serve as Ukraine's representative in the Customs Union and that he will deal with issues that cause some differences between Ukraine and the Customs Union.
Azarov also called on domestic media not to speculate on the issue of an alleged conflict between Ukraine and the Customs Union.
"We have problems, but these problems should not be artificially created and exaggerated. First and foremost, the settlement of the issue lies in the sphere of coordination of our positions. The job is not easy, but it will definitely bring results. We are deeply convinced of this," the head of government said.
