Record harvests in Ukraine will have a positive impact on world prices and an increase in international grain reserves.

KYIV, August 15 /Ukrinform/. Record harvests in Ukraine will have a positive impact on world prices and an increase in international grain reserves.

Director of the Trade and Agriculture Directorate at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Ken Ash stated this on the BTB television channel, Ukrinform reported.

"The fact that several countries such as Ukraine report record harvests this year will have a positive impact on global markets. We expect a decline in prices for grain, food and feed, and we also hope that global stocks will start growing. This, in turn, will help stabilize prices," the OECD representative said.

According to the expert, new export rules, which significantly simplify the handling of grain cargoes, will bring additional benefits to farmers. "When governments make the rules governing delivery for the transportation of goods across the border more predictable, consistent and transparent, this helps reduce the cost of grain. So it's a very good idea," Ash said.

According to forecasts by international experts, Ukraine will be the world's second-largest grain exporter in the 2013/2014 marketing year.
