Used cars in Ukraine more expensive than in Europe

KYIV, July 29 /Ukrinform/. Used cars in Europe are several times cheaper than similar cars in Ukraine, according to u-news.org.ua.

In particular, analysts of the Slando site of classified ads compared the cost of old Skoda Octavia, Daewoo Lanos and Volkswagen Golf cars produced almost in the same years in Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria. The cars had approximately the same level of equipment and were in a good condition. The analysts found that used cars in Ukraine were two to five times more expensive than those in the said countries.

"For example, a 1.5-liter Daewoo Lanos produced in 2000-2002 can be purchased in Poland for just $800, while the average price in Ukraine is $5,000. The price of Skoda Octavias and Volkswagen Golfs is twice higher in Ukraine, ranging at $12,000-13,000, compared with $5,000-7,000 in Romania, Poland or Hungary," reads the statement.

The best-selling car on the secondary car market in Ukraine in the first half of 2013 was VAZ (15%). Volkswagen is in second place (8%), and Mercedes-Benz is third (7%). The three brands accounted for more than 30% of the market of used cars and have remained unchanged since 2010.
