First regional budget funds allocated for Kharkiv’s anti-drone defenses, Syniehubov says
Anti-drone defenses are being built around Kharkiv; the first 7 million hryvnias for this project were allocated from the regional budget.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, announced this on television, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“We are building around the city of Kharkiv (the so-called anti-drone perimeter—ed.) to the north, northeast, and northwest. We are implementing this project on a trial basis at one of the facilities. We cannot disclose any details at this time,” Syniehubov said.

According to him, the project to protect against FPV drones is being funded from the regional budget.

“The first 7 million hryvnias out of 30—which is exactly how much the first phase will cost—have already been allocated from the regional budget to create the first line of defense. It will be aimed at countering drones using fiber-optic cables,” said the head of the Regional Military Administration.

He noted that the first results are expected in three weeks. The official is confident that they will be positive.

“Next, we will scale up the project to cover the most dangerous areas,” Sinyegubov added.

Earlier, Oleh Syniehubov stated on Radio Charter that the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, in collaboration with the “Charter” Corps, is working on an experimental project to protect the city from attacks by Russian FPV drones using fiber-optic cables.

The first phase involves installing a defense system in a specific area of Kharkiv. If the tests are successful, the plan is to expand the system to cover the entire city.

According to Syniehubov, the system will have several layers of defense. The first layer will consist of active countermeasures against drones, while the second will consist of passive protection measures. These include anti-drone nets.

The third level of defense will consist of additional mobile fire teams tasked with destroying FPV drones that manage to breach the earlier lines of defense.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russian FPV drones have been detected in Kharkiv since late 2025.
