UK allocates USD 1.3B from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine
This was reported by the UK government press service, according to Ukrinform.
Defense Secretary John Healey announced that money raised from immobilized Russian assets has paid for more than £1 billion of weapons and military support. This included the supply of hundreds of thousands of rounds of artillery ammunition, hundreds of air defense missiles, spare parts, and new support contracts to help maintain and repair its equipment and vehicles.
Healey added that Britain is reviewing the readiness of its armed forces and accelerating funding to be ready for any potential deployment of forces to Ukraine.
Over the past 50 days, the UK has delivered the following aid to Ukraine: 4.7 million rounds of small arms ammunition, 60,000 artillery shells, missiles and rocket munitions, more than 2,500 drones, over 200 electronic warfare systems, 100 light weapons, 30 vehicles, and additional equipment for countering drones and strengthening air defense.
“The UK remains committed to securing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, with £4.5 billion being spent on military support to Ukraine this year,” the statement said.
From these funds, £2.26 billion was allocated as a loan to Ukraine through the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration Fund, which is repaid using money raised from the proceeds from immobilized Russian assets
As reported earlier, UK Defense Secretary John Healey arrived in Ukraine yesterday for a visit.
On the same day, the UK government announced new sanctions against 11 Russian individuals and entities for the forced deportation of Ukrainian children.
