The first batch of 122 mm artillery shells, manufactured by Ukraine's state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom in cooperation with a NATO country, has already been sent to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

That's according to the defense company's press service, Ukrinform reports.

"The order of the Ministry of Defense was preceded by factory tests, during which the state-owned company confirmed the necessary tactical and technical specifications of the projectile," the report said.

This is already the third type of ammunition after the 120 mm mortar mine and the 125 mm tank projectile, which is manufactured using domestic technology with the involvement of Ukrainian field experts at foreign facilities.

The 122 mm projectile is used by the Ukrainian artillery when working with D-30 towed howitzers (a maximum firing range of 15.4 km) and 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers (a maximum firing range of 15.2 km).

On March 21, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to transform Ukroboronprom into JSC Ukrainian Defense Industry. This is the starting point of the company's transformation into a modern high-tech defense company, wholly owned by the state.
