The Ministry of Defense should become an effective civilian authority that formulates policies, as well as runs military, political and administrative management of the Armed Forces, as well as ensures civil and democratic control.

A new structure of the ministry will be approved to this end, says Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov who spoke in the Verkhovna Rada during a Q&A session on Friday, December 3, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Reznikov noted that the gradual "demilitarization" of positions in the ministry has already begun, and that military servicemen will mostly be employed by the General Staff in Kyiv.

Also, the minister said that by the end of 2021, it is planned to create five inter-structural committees that would enhance the efficiency of decision-making.
