Denisova: 226 civilians, 37 servicepersons held captive in occupied Donbas

Since the beginning of January, the number of Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions has increased to 267 people.

"Since the beginning of January 2021, the number of Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions has increased, reaching 267 people," Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova posted on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

According to the human rights commissioner, militants hold captive 226 civilians, including four volunteers, 37 servicepersons and four members of volunteer battalions.

"We look forward to releasing all illegally detained citizens who are still held captive in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas," Denisova noted.

As reported, at the end of December last year, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova informed that 251 Ukrainians were held captive by militants in the occupied Donbas.
