Events in eastern Ukraine are on the list of the top ten conflicts in the world to follow next year, which was drawn up by Robert Malley, a special assistant for the Middle East under President Barack Obama, according to an article published on the Foreign Policy website.

"Ukraine's comedian-turned-president, Volodymyr Zelensky, elected in April 2019, has brought new energy to efforts to end Kyiv's six-year-old conflict with Russia-backed separatists in the country's eastern Donbas region," the article reads.

At the same time, it notes that the issue of peace remains uncertain, and "cease-fire and disengagement plans might collapse and fighting could escalate."

In addition to Ukraine, the list includes Afghanistan, Yemen, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Libya, the conflict involving the United States, Iran, Israel, and the Persian Gulf, problematic negotiations between the United States and North Korea, and the Kashmir conflict.
