U.S. Department of State confirms sale of 150 Javelin missiles to Ukraine
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said this in a news release published on Thursday, October 3, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
"The State Department adopted a decision on the possible sale to Ukraine of 150 Javelin missiles and related equipment and support for an estimated cost not to exceed $39.2 million," the report says.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on October 3.
The Government of Ukraine requested to buy one hundred fifty (150) Javelin missiles and ten (10) Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs).
This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of Ukraine. The Javelin system will help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in order to meet its national defense requirements.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Congress had completed the necessary procedures for selling Ukraine a new batch of Javelin anti-tank weapons.
