Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak made his first official visit to the Republic of Finland and held important meetings with Finland's president, defense minister and chairman of the Parliamentary Defense Committee.

During the meetings, in particular, the possible participation of Finland in a UN peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine was discussed, Poltorak wrote about this on his Facebook page.

"During the meetings, we discussed the current security situation in the country and the world, the issues related to the deepening of further bilateral cooperation between the defense departments of the countries. We also need support in resolving the conflict in the east of the country, including through the possible involvement of the forces of Finland in the UN peacekeeping mission in Ukraine," the report reads.

The Ukrainian defense minister also stressed a principled position of the Republic of Finland in supporting sanctions against the Russian Federation since the beginning of its aggression against Ukraine and in preserving the territorial integrity of our state.
