Man who shot at police officer during call detained in Lutsk

In Lutsk, during a call regarding domestic violence, a father-in-law aimed at his daughter-in-law and grandson, but the police officer managed to shield them with his body. The perpetrator was detained.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Volyn region, according to Ukrinform.

“A man who shot at a police officer who shielded a woman with a child was detained in Lutsk,” the report said.

The police noted that on January 14, on Nalyvaika Street, a domestic violence response team arrived at the scene after receiving a call from a woman. She reported that her father-in-law was threatening to evict her from the apartment and was behaving aggressively. The woman was in the apartment with her young son and feared for their safety.

A police crew also arrived at the scene immediately. They had a preventive conversation with the man, born in 1956. When he calmed down, he suddenly went into another room and returned with a rifle, after which he abruptly aimed it at his daughter-in-law and grandson. The police reacted instantly. One of them jumped on the attacker, covering the woman and child. At that moment, the attacker fired.

The pellet lodged in the police officer's bulletproof vest. The man was detained, and the investigation team was called.

The police reported that the lives and health of all participants in the incident were not in danger. The police officer suffered minor injuries.

“I was saving a child. I saw a man aiming at my family, and at that moment I didn't think about anything else,” said the wounded police officer.

The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The gun was confiscated.

Investigators entered the information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer).

The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 9 to 15 years or life imprisonment.

As reported by Ukrinform, police in Kyiv detained a man who opened fire during a conflict and fled the scene.
