Three young men detained in Kyiv for assaulting war veteran
That is according to the Kyiv Police Communications Department, Ukrinform reports.
"Recently, an emergency call was received from a medical response team stating that a group of individuals had assaulted a man in the Holosiivskyi district. A response team from the local police unit was dispatched to the scene," the statement said.
Police established that the victim is a 38-year-old former serviceman and combat veteran who had been discharged from the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to injuries sustained in service.
According to the investigation, while the veteran was walking down the street with a friend, a group of intoxicated young men began harassing them and provoking a conflict.
The attackers then knocked the man to the ground and delivered multiple punches and kicks to his head and body before fleeing the scene.
The victim is currently hospitalized.
Officers from the Holosiivskyi Police Department, working with criminal analysis specialists, promptly detained three local residents aged 18, 19 and 28.
Under the procedural guidance of the Holosiivskyi District Prosecutor's Office, the suspects have been notified of charges under Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (infliction of moderate bodily harm), as well as Part 2 of Article 296 (hooliganism committed by a group of persons).
If convicted, the suspects face up to four years in prison.
