Drone procurement scheme uncovered in Sumy region, eight suspects identified
The press service of the Prosecutor General’s Offiice reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
According to the investigation, a serviceman organized a group consisting of officials from local communities in the Sumy district and affiliated private entrepreneurs. They forged documents on behalf of a military unit for the alleged procurement of quadcopters and, on that basis, transferred more than UAH 15.6 million from the accounts of four local communities.
The drones for the military were never purchased – the participants of the scheme misappropriated the money and laundered it through financial operations. It was noted that prosecutors from the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Central Region have petitioned the court to impose preventive measures against the suspects.
As Ukrinform reported, in the Odesa region, in Dobroslav, a 46-year-old employee of a law firm embezzled nearly UAH 138,000 that had been paid by military personnel for alleged legal services.
