On Thursday, the Chisinau Court of Appeal sentenced the fugitive deputy leader of the Shor party, Ilan Shor, to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property worth 5 billion lei (over $270 million).

This is reported by Ukrinform, referring to NewsMaker.

"The Appeals Chamber sentenced Shor to 15 years in prison. Wherever he serves his sentence, be it Israel or Moldova, all of the seized property will now be confiscated in favor of the state - this is 5 billion lei," said the chairman of the parliamentary legal commission, MP from the Action and Solidarity party, Olesea Stamate.

According to Stamate, there is only one case against Shor, and the courts are yet to hand down sentences in the rest of them. At the same time, she did not specify which case the MP was convicted in.

In 2015, Ilan Shor was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison in the "billion-theft", fraud, and money laundering case. The court ruled that the sentence would only take effect once it became final. The case was under review by the Chisinau Appeal Chamber. Court hearings were repeatedly postponed.
