Man with grenade takes police officer hostage in Poltava

A man suspected of stealing a car in Poltava offered resistance to law enforcement officers and then took a police officer hostage and drove away in a car provided to him, the criminal investigation department of the National Police of Ukraine has reported on Telegram.

"The culprit took a criminal investigation officer hostage. After negotiations, the culprit exchanged the criminal investigation officer for the head of the criminal investigation department of the National Police's main directorate in the Poltava region, Colonel Vitaliy Shyian, with whom he drove away from the city in a car provided to him according to his demands," the report reads.

A special operation to detain the culprit is underway.

Earlier reports said that in Poltava, on Ostapa Vyshni Street, a man suspected of stealing a vehicle resisted law enforcement officers and threatened to detonate a grenade.
