Official in Odesa region suspected of embezzling UAH 2 mln

The head of a unit at Biliaivka District State Administration in Odesa region has been notified of a suspicion of embezzling UAH 2 million allocated from the budget to repair a water supply system, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office has reported.
"In 2012, during the overhaul of an external water supply system in a village of Biliaivka district, this official colluded with the director of a private enterprise and other persons and forged documents for the purchase of repair work for about UAH 9.5 million. As a result of illegal actions, the plotters took possession of more than UAH 2 million in budget funds," the statement reads.
At the same time, according to the police, in fact, major repairs on individual sites were conducted partially or not carried out at all.
Law enforcers also recalled that in July this year a suspicion was reported to the director of a private enterprise involved in budget embezzlement. He is currently in custody.
