AFU adjusts training to counter Russian drones – Syrskyi
According to Ukrinform, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported this on Facebook.
According to him, in conditions where the enemy has a twofold advantage in personnel and equipment, the key priorities for Ukraine's Defense Forces are the quality of military training, preserving soldiers' lives, and the effective use of available weapons.
"The war is changing every day. Therefore, we continuously focus on basic combined-arms training. In particular, during a working meeting, we decided to adjust the training content for countering enemy UAVs and to strengthen the technological component, with a focus on operating UAVs and countering enemy drones," the Commander-in-Chief noted.
The command analyzes feedback from cadets, which helps improve the quality of training, refine programs, and upgrade the material and technical base.
Special attention in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is given to individual training.
The dispersal of training grounds and training centers is also ongoing, with their relocation to safer areas.
According to Syrskyi, in addition to training centers, 68 military units are currently conducting basic combined-arms training within their own facilities. Some brigades have long been training recruits on their own, while others have only recently begun doing so. What matters most is the result and quality, Syrskyi emphasized.
During the meeting, the Commander-in-Chief heard reports from combat units. The 3rd Assault Brigade and the 57th Motorized Infantry Brigade demonstrated positive achievements in training servicemen.
"We see the problem areas. Solutions are being developed and implemented. At the same time, our partners recognize the high level of training of the Ukrainian army and are adopting our experience," Syrskyi stressed.
As reported, the Ministry of Defense explained what is studied during basic combined-arms training and why it is critically important in modern warfare.
Since July 2025, all AFU training centers have been using an updated, sixth edition of the basic combined-arms training program. The course duration has now been extended to 51 days, with additional time specifically allocated to strengthening training in countering enemy drones.
This decision is driven by the realities of intense combat operations: modern warfare requires every servicemember to have deeper knowledge, a stronger practical foundation, and readiness for technological challenges on the battlefield.
The main goal of the training is not just to provide theoretical knowledge, but to develop survival skills and effective combat performance under stressful conditions, the ministry explained. Out of a total of 402 training hours, 367 are dedicated exclusively to practical exercises under the guidance of instructors.
