Russia suffers record losses this winter despite minimal gains – expert
This was stated by Ivan Tymochko, Head of the Council of Reservists of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a television broadcast while answering a question about the significant results achieved by Ukrainian defenders at the front this winter, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Among other things, statistics show that this winter Russians, while occupying minimal territory, have suffered maximum personnel losses – greater than ever relative to each square meter of occupied land,” he said.
Tymochko noted that over the past two months Ukrainian forces have managed to systematically destroy large numbers of enemy artillery systems – several dozen units per day.
“This is quite significant. Why? Because in difficult weather conditions, when drones cannot fly, enemy artillery takes on a large part of the task of striking our positions,” the expert said.
He explained that when Russian artillery is destroyed in such numbers, it prevents them from creating the “fire barrage” tactics they often used, especially at the beginning of the full-scale invasion or during large-scale offensives to support their ground forces.
Tymochko also said that in the winter, Ukrainian defenders destroyed several enemy air defense systems every day.
According to him, this indicates that Russian forces are trying to move these systems as close as possible to the front line in order to protect their assault formations from Ukrainian drones and missile strikes.
“This is the answer to skeptics who claim that we have nothing to strike with. On the contrary, it shows that the enemy is trying to bring as many resources as possible to cover its troops,” he said.
As reported, Ukrainian air defense destroyed more than 30,000 aerial targets in February.
