Ukraine’s Air Force says Russian night flights may signal preparation for new attack
As reported by Ukrinform, this was stated on air by Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“This is nothing new – it is simply something that had been forgotten from earlier times. Previously, the invaders repeatedly launched strategic aviation; you may also remember the frequent air raid alerts across Ukraine due to MiG-31K takeoffs, which are carriers of Kinzhal missiles and effectively kept the country on alert up to seven times a day or even more. This time, it may be a rehearsal for a strike that is likely being planned for the near future,” Ihnat said.
He recalled that there were no mass Russian strikes on New Year’s night; however, Russian forces continue to launch drones against Ukraine every night.
“Since January 1, approximately up to 100 aerial attack assets have been flying toward our country every night,” the spokesperson noted.
Ihnat emphasized that the enemy has not abandoned its intention to strike critical infrastructure and civilian areas. Accordingly, the threat of a mass attack remains – a point previously stressed by the President of Ukraine and senior military leadership.
As reported by Ukrinform, air defense forces neutralized 137 out of 165 drones launched by Russia against Ukraine from the evening of January 4.
