Poland scrambles fighter jets amid Russian air attack on Ukraine
This was reported on the social network X by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, according to Ukrinform.
“In connection with the attack by the Russian Federation, which is striking targets on the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation is operating in Poland’s airspace,” the statement said.
It is noted that all available forces and assets were activated, ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on alert, and fighter jets were scrambled.
The statement emphasizes that these actions were preventive in nature and aimed at ensuring the security of the airspace and protecting citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threat zone.
Later, the Operational Command reported that aircraft patrols in Poland’s airspace had been completed.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, from the evening of December 22, during a massive Russian air attack on Ukraine, the Defence Forces neutralized 635 out of 673 aerial attack devices, including almost all cruise missiles.
