Released POWs to receive additional indivisible 90-day leave — law

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted as a whole a law on the implementation of the right to leave for servicemen released from captivity.

As reported by a Ukrinform correspondent, legislative initiative No. 14092 was supported by 258 members of parliament.

The purpose of the document is to legislatively regulate the rights of servicemen released from captivity to receive additional leave with preservation of monetary support for a duration of 90 calendar days, without division into parts, without any conditions related to a decision on continuation or termination of military service at the time such leave is granted and taken, and to guarantee the right of such servicemen to be discharged from military service.

The draft law proposes setting out in a new wording paragraph 23 of Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine “On Social and Legal Protection of Servicemen and Members of Their Families,” according to which it is established that: “Servicemen, after their release from captivity, shall be granted, at their request, additional leave with preservation of monetary support for a duration of 90 calendar days, without division into parts.”

The MPs also instructed the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada to sign the adopted law without delay and submit it to the President for signature immediately.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, if the Russian side has not confirmed that a person is being held in captivity, but the Ukrainian side has received official confirmation that the Ukrainian received a postcard sent to them by Ukraine, this will be considered as completion of the procedure for verifying that this person is in captivity in the Russian Federation.
