Ukraine's capitulation can encourage Putin and others like him – Pistorius

Ukrinform
The Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius, made this statement during budget debates in the Bundestag on Wednesday, Ukrinform's correspondent reports.

According to him, first, Ukraine cannot be forced to make unilateral territorial concessions. Second, Ukraine must continue to be able to defend itself, specifically by having strong armed forces and reliable, effective security guarantees, including from the United States. Third, nothing concerning the future of European states, NATO, or the European Union can be discussed or decided behind the backs of partners and allies.

Pistorius stated that there can be no peace through capitulation. Such a peace would not only betray the Ukrainians; it would also strengthen Putin's ambitions and encourage other autocrats to follow his example.

He noted that efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine are right and necessary, even if past attempts have been unsuccessful. However, such efforts must be serious and ultimately lead to a safe Europe, and above all, they must result in a lasting, reliable, and just peace, Pistorius added .

As Ukrinform reported, Germany's 2026 budget allocates EUR 11.5 billion for military aid to Ukraine.
