Weapon used to kill Parubiy not yet found – Prosecutor’s Office
The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office addressed online reports about a supposedly discovered pistol, according to Ukrinform.
“The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office officially states: the weapon used in the killing of the Member of Parliament of Ukraine has not yet been found, searches are ongoing,” the statement reads.
The Prosecutor’s Office urged media representatives and the public to rely exclusively on verified official information.
As reported by Ukrinform, on August 30 in Lviv, former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and Member of Parliament Andriy Parubiy was shot dead. The attacker fired eight shots.
During the night of September 1, the suspect in the killing was detained in the Khmelnytskyi region.
On September 1, the Head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office signed a notice of suspicion for a 52-year-old Lviv resident in the case of Parubiy’s murder.
Initially, the Prosecutor’s Office qualified the actions of the 52-year-old resident of Lviv under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 1 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons).
Before the start of the court hearing, in a conversation with journalists, the suspect admitted that he had committed the murder.
The Prosecutor’s Office later reclassified the suspicion in the criminal proceedings to Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons) and Article 112 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempt on the life of a Member of Parliament of Ukraine committed in connection with his state or public activity).
